i've been thinking of how we use the various types of media, and its quite clear a computer can do most things now, which before had to have its own standalone unit. i wonder how this relates to money saving?
-tv, 4od and bbc iplayer for a start.. is there still a need for a tv license and traditional tv ?
-radio can be streamed online
-books can be read online, as ebooks
-music can be downloaded and played through a computer
the question seems to be what a computer can't do! but in reality how far do you go?
is anyone on here using their pc for absolutely everything?
if you're watching tv/listenin to radio online then you'll probably need an unlimited fast broadband service, does this work out cheaper than paying for a tv license?
similarly listening to music, if you use your pc then you dont need to buy a hifi or cds?
the other issue seems to be convenience and comfort. is it possible to set your computer and screen up to replicate a standard tv sitting in the corner, in full view of your sofa? can you get the same sound quality from your pc as you can from a hi fi seperates system?
everything seems to be slowly moving to being pc based and i wonder what peoples views are on this and who is actually trying all this out?

A media pc can do "all of the above" if you choose to, and will happily run onto a lcd/plasma telly

HiFi quality-wise, it depends on your choice of sound card, vs the quality of your existing stereo

Only problem is of course that if you do all these things through your PC, then if it goes wrong, you could be without all of them while it is repaired (if they can).0

I doubt you will need a lot of the software as today. Will be all online.0

You still need a TV licence to watch BBC TV on a PC.0

Or any live TV broadcast. But you don't need one for the likes of iplayer or any other "recorded" TV. So if it's BBC on-demand rather than live then you don't need a licence."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
