FUJITSU PC running slooow..& AVG issue

Our PC is approx 3-4 years old.we are on Talk Talk broadband with no problems.
Sometimes the PC is so slow, you knwo over lapping screens etc..
It needs a good clean i think as lots of pictures, music stored on there i think..(we can put pics on the disks)
Does anyone know of a good SIMPLE clean up tool & few step by step directions? Ive defragged it & tried to get rid of programmes we dont use much.
Also a good free virus thing..we use AVG but apparently its going to start to charge?
