try your local council gyms.
Here in Leicester, for £205 per year, or about £20 per month, I have access to:
1. at least 6 council gyms (I only use 3 regularily)
2. all classes (circuit training, areobics or whatever)
3. use of courts for badminton, tabletennis, squash etc
4. use of gym
5. use of any and all swimming pools
for no extra charge (i.e. all inclusive!!)
Now thats value for money!!!
Only thing I would pay for are maybe specialist classes like pilates or using the football pitch etc.0 -
Depends what you want your gym to have, ie facilites wise.
I go to gymophobics (great name hey) and its a 30min workout for women only, i got 4 times a week. Im currently on a free slimming trial for 16 weeks, BUT i know it roughly costs £28 a mth.
Admin/consultation fees are on top, they're quiet pricely, but if you keep an eye out for offers its a lot cheaper. Ex when they had open week admin/consultation fees were half along with per mth fee if you joined up with a friend.
Granted the gym doesn't have a swimming pool or sauna etc, its just the equiptment, but you get 1-1 consultation reassessments as the machines are programable to your fitness levels and you get dietary advice and food diaries to fill in, if you want to.
I love it, im really hoping i get offered a discount when my trial is up as i wanna contine. In my 1st 7 weeks i have lost 8 1/2 inches over all.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Join one which you are not binded by a contract and can perhaps pay monthly. My gym membership costs £25 a month or you can pay £3 per session..so depending how often you go this could work out much cheaper.0

Join a local council gym which offers you a pay as you go option.
I know loads of people who have signed up to expensive gyms and after a few weeks/months have stopped going.
Might as well throw your money out the window!0 -
I signed up to Greens at an initial cost of £51 per month (sounds extortionate looking back on it!), but a couple of months later they dropped the monthly fee to £36 which is very reasonable given the range of services they offer. It might be worth looking at them.0

i pay £80 for the year and get swimming, tennis courts, badminton courts included0

You could look at "off peak" membership depending on your circucmstances.
I go lunchtimes and it's £22.50 per month.
Other than that you could consider
gym equipment at home
dvds
cycling, walking etc.
I've done all of the above and long term the costs are low.0 -
well i joined my local gym, a parkwood one
always alway and ALWAYS try an negotiate the prices
if they have a "one off joining fee" negotiate that off
the people that will deal with you will be sales people and they DO have that option
i recently joined a gym, and got the one off joining fee and the safety induction fee knocked off the price
in hindsight i might have been able to get the d/d lowered a bit but when i plan go go to the gym 4 times a week and swimming once a week and whatever classes i want
i aint gonna complain at the price
lol0
