vacuum choice - expensive second hand or cheap brand new?

I badly need a new vacuum cleaner, and I have only ever bought cheap ones which may explain why I hate hoovering - it takes me ages!
I have been offered a second hand Dyson for £40, but then I saw that Sainsbury's do a cyclonic bagless upright for £52, reduced to £40 at the moment.
Which should I go for - the second hand one that cost £199 new or the brand new one that costs £40? This hoover needs to last me a long time. I'm grateful for any advice you can offer me!

we recently bought a second hand dyson from a bloke that sells them and its 100 times better than my cheap one i bought that broke after 6 months!!!Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts

if you know how old the dyson is and if its been looked after i would go for that one0

I would defo say the Dyson. When my dyson gave up after five years of hard work i made the mistake of getting a cheap bagless panasonic from tesco as i didnt have a lot of money to spend. Really wish i had got a second hand dyson instead as there is no comparison. The panasonic is only fit for the bin six months after buying it.
Will be replacing it asap with a dyson"The darkness has no answers"0 -
Which dyson is it? and how long has people selling had it?
My dc01 lasted me 7 years, I replaced it with a dc07 which lasted 2 before the motor blew up.:mad:0 -
I don't think i will ever use anything other than a Dyson now.
The good thing about a Dyson is that there are lots of places you can buy spare parts. Most you can install yourself really easily. Even a new motor if you are a little bit mechanically minded.0 -

I agree, second hand quality is normally better than new cheap...0

I've a DC01 and had 7 years now, when it finally dies (probably from me hoovering one metal object too many) will def get a brand new Dyson, had 2 hoovers in 3 years before.
Finally persuaded my Mum to get a Dyson, she gets through hoovers at an alarming rate.
Edit: why not look on your local Freecycle for a Dyson? Have seen them offered before now.2008 wins. DVD player together with Now quiz/Now 2008 DVDs,£25.00 Real People, pair of tickets for London Eye.0 -
I had a Dyson for a bit but it was too heavy for me and eventually packed up so I put if on freecycle and a lady had it for spare parts.
Now got a Panasonic but that's starting to cut out every little while (don't know why) and OH is reckoning on getting a Henry.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

make sure you have a trial run with the Dyson before you buy it: I find people either love 'em or hate 'em. Personally I love 'em, but we had one at work which wasn't popular.Signature removed for peace of mind0
