3 Day Break To London 29th Aug to 1st Sept

My better half and I are booking a 3 days break to London arriving Friday 29th Aug and checking out Monday 1st Sept. We have both agreed on The Landmark London hotel. We have agreed on a little step up and went for the Deluxe room. Booking with The Landmark themselves gives us an 'early bird' 30% discount on the room making it £139, £139 and £188 for the 3 nights making it a total of £466.

Is there anyway of getting this any cheaper or a better deal ? I've looked at hotels.com and general internet browsing and I cant really find a better deal but I'm not that great at searching and dont know all the tips.

Train travel prices are crazy. We can get £88 for the both of us down to London 1st class, and its £203 coming back, wow.

Tried doing single tickets, but that works out as £31 down and £203 coming back. Does anyone know how to do those tricks where cheaper fares are possible ?

Why is it so expensive on the way back to glasgow ?

p.s. No we wont be flying down.

Because you're travelling on a "normal" Monday and competing with business travellers for tickets ....?

It does say on this Msn site that some travellers pay standard train fare and go into the first class carriage to have a meal and stay there for the journey.. Know you are going first class, but maybe you could come back standard class and do that? Don't know how it works, but you can do a search to check out travellers somments.

I'm just thinking, National Express East Coast's booking for advance purchase tickets is currently open until 29th August, so the cheap fares for the return on 1st September won't be in the system yet.

    Arghh !.

Thats a huge pet hate of mine when hotels do that. For that reason only I will no longer stay with them.

    Thanks for the heads up.
