Not heard of Miele before..............are they upright or cylinder ? OH is saying about getting a Henry...........we've three cats and I'm sure thats half the problem.
Maybe ours automatically cuts out when it overheats or something. I had a Dyson once and that cut out - rang them up and they said it was an automatic cut out on it.
Not getting another Dyson though.........bad back put paid to that, they're just so heavy.
The Miele is a cylinder.
They are consistently the most reliable brands across all their appliances in reliability surveys, whereas Dyson break down all the time.
It is a vastly superior product to the Henry: it really does clean superbly.
The Cat & Dog is targeted at pet owners.

£180 from Tribaluk.
Full range:

Miele list seven as suitable for pet owners:
Cat & Dog TT 5000
Automatic TT 5000
Revolution 5000
Revolution Power Plus 5000
S 4581
S 4511
Solution HEPA 5281 Vacuum
The essential feature is to have a Turbobrush/Electrobrush: you can go for a cheaper model and add one on for £38 http://www.homevac.co.uk/products.asp?urx=cd:Mle06271980;
We have the S4211 (no pets; this doesn't have a turbobrush), and it's excellent, the only problem is the exhaust smells when the bag gets a bit full, and I can't imagine it would be any better with bets, so for this reason I would select a vacuum that has the 'removing odours' feature', which leaves
Cat & Dog TT 5000
Solution HEPA 5281 Vacuum
Revolution 5000
Revolution Power Plus 5000
as suitable models. The main difference seems to be the cat & dog one comes with a 'mini turbobrush' as well as 'turbobrush', I guess for removing hair from smaller areas, and the three other models all have HEPA allergy filters.
I think in order of price they are supposed to be:
Cheapest: Cat & Dog TT 5000
HEPA 5281 (there is also a 5280 model, not sure if this is the same)
Revolution 5000
Priciest: Revolution PowerPlus 5000
the two revolution models have electrobrushes rather than turbobrushes, and the 5281 has a parquet brush
but there are some good prices on ebay for the HEPA and base Revolution model, you might want to look at these.0 -

We have a Miele vac and it is very good and, relatively, quiet.0

OK, but bear in mind that the Henry is going to cost about £100, which is the same as the base Miele models, but lesser suction.0 -
Thanks - I do need to do some price comparisons.
Only other problem I can see, both with Henry and the Miele is that they're cylinder cleaners and I have a back problem. Always had an upright for that reason apart from a small cylinder one (cheap & useless) just for upstairs. Back breaking it was to use that.Mary
