Hey all,
Very randomly I noticed this morning that firefox had no audio, so youtube and metacafe etc loaded and played the videos, but no sound was produced. However, when I opened winamp and windows mediaplayer, sound was perfect.
So this afternoon, firefox refused to (and continues to, I'm currently on IE) open, and displays the error message:
"NVIDIA display driver files from different (incompatible) versions of the driver have been detected.
NVIDIA OpenGL acceleration is disabled in order to maintain system stability.
To resolve this problem, update the NVIDIA display driver. The latest driver is available at www.nvidia.com"
I use Windows XP and have an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics card on my Toshiba Satellite laptop.
I went to the nvidia site and couldn't find my driver, and then went to the softpedia driver site and downloaded 2 different drivers, installed them one by one and neither had any effect on the problem.
Any ideas?
Any help would be much appreciated! thanks! :T

Managed to fix the Driver problem, it was actually one of my firefox addons causing the problem.
However, I'm left with the original problem of no sound in firefox! has this happened to anyone before? thanks!0 -
There is another occasional problem connected with FF failing to open. It is caused by incomplete shutdown from previous use.
"Cont/Alt/Delete" to open Task Manger
Look under "Processes"
If FireFox is shown and is using 00% of CPU
Highlight FireFox and "End Task" (accept warning)
Clear down Task Manager
Start again !0 -
Thanks Moonrakerz, but curiously my problem turned out to be a problem with one of my firefox extentions. Uninstalling it solved the non-opening problem, but the new problem is that firefox has no sound! so whenever I go to youtube or metacafe or whatever, there's no sound. Even when FF is in safe mode..?

Maybe you have some additional add-ons that are causing problems for FireFox. Try uninstalling FireFox completely and re-installing BUT make sure you back up your bookmarks just to be on the safe side. I've had weird problems with FF in the past and a complete removal and reinstall helped.
