Reclaiming Credit Card Charges

Hi all
Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place (let me know) but I only joined today
I read Martin's notes about reclaiming Credit Card charges and he said that you need to itemise the charges. I have had a number of cards over the last few years and I don't have the statements anymore.
How do I go about claiming if I cannot find out when and what I was charged?
Thank you!
Les
