As the weather has started to become BETTER for once, haha , I thought to myself what could I do to earn myself a bit of extra cash? Through the years of secondary school I sold ice poles and sweets at this time and made about £3 a day.. not bad over a 5day week, but as I have left secondary and only have 3 exams left I was wondering what could I do now? As I’m a young birthday (July) most of my mates are 16 and so can get shelf stacking type jobs.
No offence to them but I would much rather be outside making money. Any ideas? Any ideas would be great. I thought, maybe lawn cutting but I would need to take a unique way to advertise it, as everyone owns a lawnmower. Hope that makes sense?
But any ideas would be brilliant and what unique ways could I do of advertising that could make my ideas work and get me some extra cash. ( inside or out jobs)
I already do surveys and STP type stuff but would like to try differant area now.

Thanks guys :j

How about car washing? Or basic weeding/simple gardening?

Firstly Mr05, well done for wanting to try, I really can't blame you for wanting to do something outdoors during the summer, who wouldn't.

People either will or won't pay to have their lawn done, and I think you'll be waiting a while for business to build up from adverts. Are you prepared to run some leaflets off and drop them yourself?

The old favourite car washing is probably getting harder with the spriinging up of hand car wash centres everywhere a petrol station has been closed, but if it was still profitable could you undercut your nearest one slightly, or offer a same price but at your house service?

If I think of anything else I'll shout up.

Most of my local supermarkets have a classifieds board - perhaps you can put up an ad for lawn mowing/ other gardening services? Other than that, libraries can be a good option too.

Good luck - it's an amazing feeling when you can profit from your hard work directly!

You could maybe ask to leave leaflets in offices/workplaces where people work long hours - try to target people who are short on time but might be willing to pay you a bit to do things for them. Car washing - again try offering an 'in-office' service, but do be careful with this. You'll be stuck if anything happens and you don't have public liabilty insurance. Alternatively, ask family/friends' families if they need things doing or know anyone who does - this sort of work usually comes through word of mouth.
  • how about advertising as a dog walker??
    restaurants always need leaflet droppers,
car washing is always a good one. xx

    Hey Andy,
I am 15 too,and before the half term I sold sweets at school after buying them in multipacks from a supermarket as well as looking around in other high street shops for the cheapest price available(poundland etc.).I have been looking around too..and I think I read off here that someone put some money into a jet wash thing that attached to the hose and offered to clean peoples front paving..I guess you could do that with a car too.
    Or possibly hire one.
    hope that helps.
I shall be keeping an eye out on this thread.:D

  • Well done for having the right attitude. How about sticking a few leaflets through doors locally saying you will provide a pair of helping hands. Give a few examples e.g. garden clearance, car washing, dog walking, clearing garages, tidying sheds, emptying attics, painting etc.

I was always recruiting my wee brother and his pals before they were old enough to work. Would offer them some cash to come help me for the day. Often just painting skirting boards or helping to clear out. If you are a good worker I am sure you'd get work.

Another idea, you could say references available and get one of your teachers to write one for you. Might make people more likely to use you if they know you are a good lad.

    Good luck.

There was some people at our local Tescos the other day washing cars whilst people did their shopping... :) You would have to find out whether a) Tesco will gove you permission b) Can you use their water..

    Good luck!
