I got so fed up with my supermarket herbs dying on me I tried to grow some basil, rosemary and parsley from seed this year, but only one basil plant survived, although mysteriously I now have a parsley plant blooming from my geranium window box - not sure how it ended up in there *scratches head*Trembling_Turnip wrote: »Bought a Tesco basil pot last week and I've tried splitting it into two pots so fingers crossed....!
Any thoughts on the best place to put the plants inside?
Try your window sills.
If they are south or west facing, and not draughty they should survive.
If they are East or North facing the plants won't get enough light.
Also basil is an annual so if it dies when it gets cold don't be surprised.

Hmmm i had all my seeds in the window sill over summer and one by one they all popped up....and then left me....
It's a south west facing window but i think the building next door must block too much light out for them to survive.
Maybe next summer I'll try some outside. Or something more hardy hehe :TProud to be dealing with my debts!

I've had to ensure that nearly all my house plants are in the rooms with East facing windows as their leaves got scorched. There as all my herbs are happiest in the West facing ones. When I've taken cuttings or been growing seeds I've left them in the West facing rooms but removed them from the window sills. In some cases I've only had to move them by a few centimetres on to a table or counter.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
