suggestions for a replacement printer

Options
hi,

My Epson Stylus C86 has stopped taking paper down for printing, the bit that should pull it down now doesnt "catch" the paper and so it eventually decides there is no paper available ...

I have already asked on here whether it would be possible to fix this and told that its not as it would probably cost more to fix as to replace ....

I am just wondering whether anyone had any suggestions for decent printers suitable for similar things as the one I have... I love how fast it can print and that it can do photos too ...

Thanks

Jen

Have you tried cleaning, (deglasing) the pickup rollers to remove the film of paper dust. Best to use IPA alcohol with a clean cloth?

    hi,

No, but looking down into the back of the printer I can see the rollers seem to be missing the paper, for a little while it worked if I piled it full of paper (making the paper nearer the rollers) but now that has stopped working.

  • Hi Top Drawer,

Sorry I don't have any tips for fixing that problem.

I got my Epson R265 from SVP. They have a nice range of printers and also sell the compatible cartridges for them which saves alot of money. I find that my printer prints quickly and does lovely photos. It also does disc printing which is a bonus.

There are also other printers that have the built in scanner/photocopier too which is a bonus at good prices too.

    Take a look for yourself...

I hope this is useful :-)

I would open it up and have a look around the rollers i had a similar problem and found a lego piece was stopping the rollers from catching the paper, just have a good look.

If that fails amazon and staples have some good printers it all depends on what you need the printer for

    hi NN,

lol yes the initial problem was that the printer was located under my new noticeboard and the magnetic Smiley faces kept falling off and one became wedged where the paper should be going into ... So after several minutes of fishing around - to get another magnet to magnetize it, using a pencil to catch it and so on. I lost patience (I was trying to print some inportant stuff late at night for uni) I eventually I turned it upside down and shook it .... the plastic face thing fell out and it continued to work normally for awhile but stopped a couple of weeks ago ...

I will pop over to those sites too and have a look around.

    Thanks,

    Jen
