renaming/saving mp3 files help

Options
Hi all

i've downloaded some mp3's with Limewire but they have all the artist & title info in the name field in the Limewire library so when I load them onto my player (Sandisk) the artists are classified as "unknown" (and I scroll by artist).

Where the files are displayed in the Limewire/Saved folder the Artist field is blank when you view the folder in details mode

Can anyone recommend a program where I can rename/save the files in the correct standard?
I tried the ReName programme but it doesnt correct the issue it only renames the one field...

many thanks in advance

You should be able to correct the tags using Windows Media Player. Just make sure that the files are not set to read-only.

If you are wanting to edit tags on lots of files, Tag & Rename is a program I have used in the past which is quite good: http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm

I've just remembered an even simpler way of doing it: right-click the file, select Properties, switch to the Summary tab and click the Advanced button.

Of course, this only applies if you're using Windows XP or something very similar.

you are absolutely correct TangleFoot. tried this before but may have been trying to access the files on the device as i only got the general tab.
I drag n dropped them back onto the source folder and tried again and voila!
Which is good as my fixtunes prog just ran out of free attempts.
Ok this way is a bit laborious but it gets the job done!

    Thanks again

:) well I have to say that the fixtunes app was very good but i just didnt want to buy it.
It retrieves all the info from the net and populates all the tags for you in bulk but i've managed the remainder by hand so to speak.

    thanks again

    Try: MP3Tag.com

Free and absolutely superb software. Also supports FLAC and other AAC.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

EasyTag is pretty easy, powerful and quick to use. (and of course totally free)

If you buy the CD and rip the tracks onto your computer using iTunes or similar, the tags should all be filled for you....;)
