We've been quoted £5500 to strip, line and emulsion the whole house, they reckon it is 7 weeks work for one man, does this seem fair? Seems expensive to me!

You could get it skimmed and painted for less/same, obviously depending on the size of the house (average sized semi) and the state of the walls but I am guessing that if you are thinking of sticking lining paper on them then they are pretty decent as you need good quality lining paper and it will only hide minor blemishes anyway. Seven weeks seems a hell of a long time as well even if he is painting the woodwork. Get some more quotes in pronto!!

Where are you located? How big is the house, how many rooms? is the whole house wallpapered? how many coats of paint are they doing, are they doing the woodwork? Finally who is supplying materials?

If it is to be done properly, all walls washed after stripping then sized, lining paper hung, then emulsioned, then there is a hell of a lot of work involved.

Obviously if you can elaborate of dimensions number of rooms your location and such i can give you a more definative answer. However that seems high to me.
