Sony DSLR and Minolta Lenses.

Options
I have recently learnt that most of the Sony DSLR range are fully compatible with Minolta AF lenses. I realise that there is a 1.5 magnification factor so my old 300mm lens becomes a 450mm lens - potentially great.

But what I really want to know is does it affect the picture quality. If anyone has any experience of this or if you have taken photographs could you let me know your thoughts and the pros and cons.

In case you haven't realised I'm thinking of buying a Sony DSLR.

Thanks.

S.

I do not have direct experience but know someone who did this with a Pentax Digital SLR using older Pentax SLR lenses. Worked beautifully and no apparent problems with quality (he has no images online that I can point at). In theory, since the lens issue is purely a matter of optics, there should be no problem at all. Which Sony DSLR are you looking at?
  • I used to have a Minolta Dynax SLR so when I decided to go Digital, I considered Sony as I thought I could use all my own lens. As it turned out, I could only use one so binned the idea.

The following sites might be useful to you:

I've seen some cracking deals on the current Sony DSLR but the official Sony lens are pretty expensive!

    No it shouldn't affect quality.

I'm a Samsung DSLR owner and I use Pentax 35mm lenses. They are all fine. The auto focus works and the aperture is perfect.

Even the quirky power zoom lenses work on the GX10.

Its worth checking the web for lens reviews though as there are some rubbish lenses out there.

I very nearly bought the A100 and looking at the reviews of the A200 I wouldn't think too hard about buying that for the right price.

£449 for the twin lens deal looks pretty good.

All the lenses I have are all Minolta AF not a compatible option so I figure the results should be good but I thought I'd check out the results - if possible.

Thinking of the A300 or the A350.
