I had never heard of purplelife (although I do lead a sheltered existence) until my dad took me to their Newbury store on Saturday.

He'd gone in there ready to be told he needed a new phone, which would have been a problem because he needs one with big keys and it took him long enough to learn how to answer this one. But they assured him a new battery would do the trick, which it did for a few weeks until his brick of a Motorola stopped charging altogether.

He couldn't find the receipt for the battery, but I said we'd go in anyway because they should be able to work out if it was the phone, the charger or the battery. It took a while for them to work out that the Motorola chargers which SAID they would fit his phone actually didn't, but they then used a car charger plugged into an adapter, and sure enough it started charging fine.

Another phone call established that Motorola had now discontinued these older chargers, so they offered to sell him a car charger, which would be a reasonable compromise if Mum and Dad had regular access to a car, which they don't. So I asked about an adapter like they were using in the shop, so they checked they could get another of those, and sent us away happy with the one they had been using and a car charger! I'd been expecting that they'd order one and Dad would have to go back, which isn't a trivial expedition for him ...

Now, I am certain that he could have picked up a suitable charger FAR cheaper on E-bay, but (you've guessed it) he doesn't have a computer either, I don't really 'do' E-bay, and he's been without his phone for weeks already. Even though he only uses it for 'emergencies', we seem to get enough of those to make the instant purchase worth the money.

While we were sorting this out, I listened to them dealing with other customers, and they seemed really helpful, really polite, and just generally great at customer service. :T:T:T And no, I have no connection with them.

That's good to hear, mobile phone shops are usually the pits for customer service, what phone does your dad have?

He has an ancient motorola. Well, I don't know HOW ancient exactly, but it's the same shape as My Very First Mobile Phone, with the stubby little aerial on it, and it doesn't seem to have a calendar or anything 'useful' like that on it. It's a phone that doesn't need wires, and it sends text messages too, possibly, not that he has ever done so! :rotfl:

The fact that they've discontinued the charger for it says a bit, doesn't it?

Reason I was asking is that I had an old Motorola, probably still got the charger knocking around in the loft with my ZX81 anyway he seems to be sorted so all is good.
