Tax credits help pls

Ok here is our situation, my partner went onto sick in January so i was told to notify the tax credits and our award would go up as our income had gone down. I did exactly what they asked and out estimate was £9040, we have our p60 and the end of year figure is 12240.Im now waiting on our new award letter out, my partner is still on sick and we get £75 a week SSP, we have 3 children and our old award was £65 a week WTC and £502 every 4 weeks CTC. How will this affect it and will I now hav e an overpayment, im scared to death this is going to happen as I rely on that money for my bills ect ect....

thanks in advance, new to MSE

If you husband has been getting sick pay since January, your overall amount should have been less than your original declared figure and not more so unsure as to where the extra has come from.

WTC will be paid for 28 weeks from the start of the sickness in Jan, if he doesnt return back to work in less than 28 weeks you will lose this element. You need to tell them if he doesnt return in this period asap.

This years award will be based on your earnings off the P60 from last year as they work a year behind. Not sure if they do occasionally allow you this years figures in the event of a change in circumstances.

Im not sure why its lower, when I phoned in January to say he was going on sick I was told to work out hwat he would probably have recieved so far, then take away the difference because of SSP if that makes sense, so basically to give a new estimate. I did as they said and now its wrong.

Will it not affect me this year then ? I have no idea what our last years end of year earning are

When calculating your estimate you should have taken what he had earned so far which would have been the gross pay to date on the January pay slip and add his estimated income for February and March.

It's likely that you will have been overpaid but with an ongoing claim they will adjust your payments to recover it.

If your husband doesn't return to work then you will have to inform TCO and there may be other benefits that you will become entitled to.
