A day trip to Bournemouth!

Due to the 1p flights with Ryan Air I'm thinking about having a day trip to Bournemouth, possibly Nov/Dec to do some Christmas Shopping and see the sights
Flight times mean a long, long day so any recommendations for a hearty breakfast to set us up for the long day would be helpful, anything not to be missed and most importantly is there a Primark for a teen to do some shopping!

Bournemouth unfortunately does not have that much to offer during the winter months... A walk along the beach front is lovely if it's a clear day. There are two main Primark stores one at the Dolphin Centre in Poole, and one in Boscombe which will be the closest to Bournemouth. If you are heading towards the airport popping into Christchurch especially the Priory and the Quay would be worth a visit. Christchurch is steeped in history. Christchurch is actually closer to the airport than Bournemouth itself. I don't often eat in Bournemouth but there are a number of good restaurants in Christchurch that would do a good breakfast!
Hope this helps0 -
Thanks that just the sort of information I'm looking for, so we would be better getting a bus from the airport into Christchurch then and spending the day there? We do have plenty of time as the return flight is at 10.00 pm.0

Yes most definetly Christchurch is lovely! It has a range of unusual shops unlike Bournemouth which is mainly just the normal chain shops. I've just looked at the airport website and from what I can see the airport bus only goes into Bournemouth itself. You could always catch another buss to Christchurch but its entirely up to you!
Here is the link for the Bournemouth airport website http://www.bournemouthairport.com/bohweb.nsf or bournemouth tourism website

Hi, I'm from Poole and if you send the teen shopping in Poole or Bournemouth it will keep them busy for hours!!! Poole Quay is worth a visit, as is the sandbanks beach but wrap up warm! Nearer to Christmas there is a german market in Bournemouth square with Food and drink which is quite good. As for Breakfast, there are so many places that i could suggest but wetherspoons is always nice and there are plenty of seaside cafes.Debt to clear: feels endless...
Weight loss to go: 42lb/13.5lb
Maybe someday i'll be skinny, organised and debt free..

Bournemouth is one of the most cosmopolitan places on the south coast, try one of the two cinemas which show up to 10 different films, there are countless bars and cafes spreading out onto the pavements even in late autumn, there are huge departmental stores and boutiques and little hideaway shops for all tastes up the back streets. And there often Buskers too in the Square....Take a gentle walk through the lower gardens of the Bourne River (stream) through to the The Aruba Cafe situated on the Pier overlooking the beach; which is a great place to spend time having breakfast while watching the surfers (even at that time of year). Yes Christchurch is pretty and its Priory and ancient ruins will keep you occupied for a couple of hours but that's all. Dont go across to Poole its a nightmare of a journey. Start in Bournemouth and head back to Christchurch for the end of the day. Visit the Red House museum which has a small Archaeology Gallery and just nearby have tea in Soho Cafe or the Boathouse on Christchurch Quay before heading to the airport just 15 mins drive away.

If its still running the Airport Bus will take you straight in the Town Centre (The Square).

From the square you can get plenty of buses to Boscombe or Poole Shopping Centres, for Primark,if you wish. Poole is the bigger store and the better shopping centre.

The Tourist Info Centre is couple of minutes walk from Square.

Christchurch whilst a nice little place does not have any large shops.0 -
i think there is a wetherspoon pub in town centre, that may do breakfasts- our local one is quite good value..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
There is a wetherspoon in the square in Bournemouth, called 'The Moon in the Square'.
I work in Bournemouth and quite often pop in there for lunch, clean and good value for money.0 -
Thanks for all the answers! I just discovered at the w/end that I have friends who live near to the airport so they will pick us up and deposit us wherever we want to spend the day then we can meet up with them later and spend the evening with them before heading to the airport :j
Booked for early December and if the weather is okay and its open we'd quite like to visit Monkey World in between some Christmas shopping and a walk along the beach. Wetherspoons sounds good for breakfast or lunch so I'll keep an eye out for vouchers between now and December.
Surfers in December, oh its enough to make me feel cold on this warm day :eek:0 -
Monkey World is a little bit away from the town and will take a large part of the day. However it is well worth going to if you do get the time.
The sea front is a bit too cold in the winter, so wrap up warm, although with Global Warming you never can tell.
Bournemouth town centre is basically the main chain stores link Debenhams, M&S, Next, Argos etc. Visit Christchurch or one of the surrounding villages for some decent shops0
