I'm on Orange broadband using their standard Speedtouch modem. I want to go wireless but am quite confused by all the different options and posts that I've read on this forum have only added to the confusion.
Can someone recommend what router/modem I should get ? Is it just a case of unplugging and doing away with my existing modem setup and plugging in a router/modem to my bt phone line then setting up the new router/modem to my xp pro laptop ?
Sorry to sound so dumb but...

Assuming your laptop already has a wifi adaptor you just need an adsl wifi router.
You will set it up with your user name and password using a cable to your laptop. Check you can access the internet with this cable first.
You'll also create a WPA or WEP security password for the wifi signal. (or find this in the documentation)
After disconnecting the cable you will locate the wifi signal from your laptop and provide the security password you set above.
After this it will work everytime you switch on the laptop.
If you want to try out a wifi signal go and park outside McDonalds and try their wifi signal. It has no security password.
By the way you need something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Belkin-F5D7630-Wireless-WiFi-ADSL-Router-Modem-54G_W0QQitemZ130228615565QQihZ003QQcategoryZ44997QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
But there are many choices - I don't specifically endorse this sale or even this model.0 -
Yes, that is correct, get yourself a adsl router, and that will replace your modem, the router will come with a simple step by step bit of software, which you will find easy to follow. once this has been done you will be wireless, as for models there are a large vast of routers out the personally i would look at the linksys range.0

I've been looking at a Netgear DG834G v3 Wireless Router. Would that be okay ?
By the way thanks for the quick replies.0 -
The Netgear DG834g always gets good reviews and is easy to setup.
There's a good video of it here: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/522440 -
