Train ticket prices if bought on day of travel

In a few weeks I'm going by train for work training.

I'm going to buy my tickets on the day of travel....so how do I find out the prices of those online?

If I look them up it gives me the advance/cheaper options which I don't think are available on the day?

Cheers

The same ticket should cost the same price the week before, so just get a ticket price on Monday for travel that day and use that price

Buying on day of travel will be most expensive. Check prices online for the date you want to go and then see the difference with the day rate.

You do exactly the same as you would do for any ticket price - look at https://www.nationalrail.co.uk

Look it up on a rail site - if the ticket you want does not have 'advance' in its description, then it will be the same price on the day.

You do not get a discount for buying standard and saver tickets in advance.

    What's the journey? (origin/destination)
What time are you making the journey?
How often will you make the journey?
    Do you have a railcard?

For most shorter tickets, there is no advantage whatsoever in buying in advance.

Rememeber that if you get it on the train you cannot get savers, cheap day or discounts(student, hms, oap).

Only standard open and standard day are available to buy on board

Unless the ticket office was not open, or the train company in question has a "buy on board" policy (e.g. Hull Trains, Grand Central).
