Think Twice Before Dealing With House of Bath

Options
I moved house recently for health reasons and being unable to traipse around the shops I looked at the House of Bath catalogue, saw the exact electric fire that I wanted and on 11th April I ordered it. I allowed twenty eight days for delivery then telephoned and was advised that the fire had been despatched on 7th May and should arrive before the 3rd of June and if it hadn't then it would be presumed lost. I phoned on 3rd of June but the goal posts had been moved and I was informed that the deadline was now 5th June. Phoned on 5th only to be told that I must wait one more week. From June 3rd I have been asking them to cancel this order because I have discovered that I can buy this fire in a very nearby local shop, (just opened). However, House of Bath won't cancel and say I must wait. Am I correct in believing that they have not adhered to their contract as they say on their catalogue to allow 28 days for delivery. They will have deducted the money and I want the order cancelled and my money refunded. The only thing to arrive was the hearth pad, which is no good to me without the fire.
Think very carefully before ordering from this company, which is a subsidiary of J. J. Williams of Manchest. I am a very dissatisfied customer

  • House of Bath are in the wrong!

To quote from the main site:-

If the goods don’t arrive on time

The Distance Selling Regulations also give you protection if you ordered something online, by phone, fax or mail order and either you or the seller specified a certain delivery date (e.g. in time for a birthday or Christmas) but it wasn’t delivered on time. If this happens you’ve a right to a full refund. If a date wasn’t specified, then delivery should be within 30 days.

Hence you can cancel as they did not deliver on the due date.

I had exactly the same delivery drama with this company. Purchased an item online a month in advance for a birthday which they did not manage to deliver for.

I complained and got my P&P refunded once the item finally arrived (only due to much pestering from myself).

They did "mislead" on more than one occasion about dispatch and delivery.
