All adverts are covered under legislation controlled by trading standards.

If ASDA is misleading customers with an unclear advert then trading standards should be informed.

I suggest a letter to both, with a copy of the letter to trading standards included in the letter to ASDA. In any case it should mean any ambiguity is cleared up.

Thanks Shaymen & everyone else. I have contacted my local Trading Standards who are investigating it on the basis of misleading Advert.

I simply can't understand how they can change the wording of the advert, terms & conditions etc.
As from the terms & condtions I have read (from the posters/leaflet) do not exclude sale items.
I've been given various excuses by ASDA store staff and Head office some have been completely ridicoulous when I called to complain at head office they told me that they only matched grocery products and supermarkets and only those leaflets that came throough my door are ad matched not the ones I picked up ?? Now how would they know what I picked up.
I've asked them politely to change their advert to Items: grocery, Retailers: Supermarkets and not any item any retailer.
Someone from Trading standards came around today and asked for the leaflet and explained that they would check the leaflet and visit the store.

Asda will not match a bogof offer either (not price matching apparantly). yet they will match a 2 for £1 and that sort of thing. As far as I understand it as long as you have a price to match (on a newspaper, not internet) it should be honoured - so fight for your rights. Let us know how this turns out please...

Why not buy the toy from Argos?

This would be my question also. Not trying to be funny here but I am of the opinion that if someone makes a good offer in first place, why should someone else get the business when they had a higher price to begin with. Why did they not make their best offer to start off with?? They were quite happy to charge more if they could get away with it and therefore in my opinion, they don't deserve to get your business.
    :p
  • Write to ASDA and TS and see what response you get. You could also write to Tesco and see if they would like to use their lawyers to sort out ASDA for using false offers to poach their customers.

(there is a bit of compeition between the 2 companies you know and they love the chance to beat the other).
    Sense is not common.

I only need to price match because the great nintendogs deal at Argos is out of stock. I don't want to wait and I am worried that it may be be back in stock. The Argos offer included a free essentials kit worth £19.99 and a free £10 voucher (too late for that now though!)

Usually i will hunt out the best deal and buy from them. I agree that if someone offers you the best price first, without haggling, buy from them!!

I am of to Asda now to see if they will price match, but I only have a copy of the internet site, not a leaflet!! so fingers crossed!!

If this ad-match policy is advertised in the press or on TV or on their instore leaflets. Then you can complain to ASA and ask for a ruling.

At the end of the day Asda will only reword their policy, but this can only be a good thing.

I very much doubt it, ASDA stopped matching 'net prices years ago, but good luck. Let us know how you get on.
