My dog ate the telephone line, can it be fixed for free?

Options
Hi,

My naughty dog ate the telehphone line, at the point where it comes into the house, and i would like it fixed for free please, any ideas?

BT said that becuase it was inside the house i had to pay. The call out charge was £63 + £63 per hour thereafter. Becuase they couldn't tell me how much the total job would take i decided to cancel my contract.

I now need the internet again and would therefore like the phone to be fixed, does anyone know of a cheap / free why to get it fixed?

I already have sky so dont really want NTL, etc. I would like to use UKonline coz they are cheap, but dont what to pay BT hundreds of pounds just to fix the cable.

Thanks,

Julian.

If you live in an NTL cabled street you can have their telephone and/or broadband service with no install charge. This will not affect your Sky package.

1MB broadband for £9.99 a month compares favourably with UKOnline.

You can't have the internet using ADSL unless you have a BT line working.

Your only other alternative is to see if you are in a cable area and use Telewest.co.uk, or NTL.co.uk for both your telephone line and internet (I recommend telewest as they are upgrading their internet speed).

BT are responsible for the cable upto the main/master telephone socket inside your home. Any cable after this main/master socket (ie any extensions) are nothing to do with BT unless they wired the house up with all your extensions.

Is the cut before of after the main telephone socket inside your house?

The problem you have is that it's not BT's fault the line has been chewed by your dog.

Alternatively, would your contents insurance pay for the repair of the damage?
