Final Payment in about an hour!!

The day has arrived. I'm off into the Nationwide to pay off what little we have left to pay (about £400) and stop the direct debits/standing orders. I have to say, at the moment it feels like I'm taking a slightly overdue libarary book back? Although, a friend at work who is also mortgage free now, told me that the thrill comes in a few months!
I always planned to make it a big day. But I haven't even got anything planned, apart from a Fish n Chip dinner, and an afternoon watching the racing on the box! Come tonight, I'll be well into it though!!

Well done on clearing the mortgage debt. Why not switch those same monthly funds to your investments straightaway, you've lived without the money so you should be able to switch most (afterall you have to reward yourself somewhat!) to your Cash ISA/Stocks & Shares ISA?
With the economy in a difficult state for the next 12-18months you've hit the ideal position of no debts. Enjoy it.0 -
Im mortgage free, but 28. Im about to commit myself to a £60k mortgage on a council house if we can.
Nan said to make as many overpayments as we can to bring it down.

Well Done!
I paid mine off just before I retired. It was a wonderful feeling. However, I thought that they should have given me a certificate or something that I could frame!!!!!!!0 -
Well done!! How good will it feel next month when the money should have come out of your account but is still there for you to spend as you wish.
I so want to be in that position one day....

UPDATE!!!
I'm going to have to put off my Mortgage Free Day by 7 days! When I got to Nationwide, this months payment was still in limbo (taken out of the account thats with Nationwide, but not yet showing as paid off their own mortgage? Don't Ask?). Anyway, I decided that the best option was to leave it until next Saturday to make that final payment.
I'm not that bothered as it's only going to cost me about 7p a day in interest, and it will give me a week to arrange something by way of a celebration!
Thanks for the congrats everyone! My wife and I are both still only 38, so we (hopefully) have many many years ahead of us to feel smug and contented!!!0 -
Well done :T :T I can't wait for the day when I can pay mine off and then plan all the things I can do with the extra money each month
