Can anyone from Yorkshire help me, we will be camping at Sheriff Hutton for a week at the beginning of the school holidays. I've got some clubcard vouchers and want to go to one of the theme parks in the area, could anyone advise which is best value and would keep my 3 children amused, DD1 21 years old, DS 9 and DD2 nearly 7. We would be very grataful for any help.
Cheers.

I have been to both, although admittedly not that recently. In my opinion there is not a lot of difference between them. I have more recently been to the sister park of Flamingo land (Pleasure Island Cleethorpes) and had an excellent day out, I would say though that it was in places a bit tatty. Everywhere that needed to be 100% was, however things needed painting, bits around the boat ride were not quite as they should have been, whole place could have done with a bit of love and attention etc,.
I seem to remember the rollercoaster at Lightwater is excellent.Loving the dtd thread. x0 -
hi, I have been to both and out of the 2 i prefered lightwater valley( though this was about 3 years ago so not sure if they've done much to either. Flamingoland was a bit run down when we went.Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
Grocery challenge November : £291.65/300.00 NSD 10
Grocery challenge December : £0/240.00 NSD0 -
Lightwater valley is dreadful. There are a couple of good rides but the rest are mediocre at best. The only good thing about Lightwater is that you can get tickets for £11 (but can't use Tesco Vouchers with these).
Flamingo Land on the other hand has to be one of the top theme parks in the UK. There are not as many 'extreme' thrill rides as Alton Towers but over the past Couple of years, A lot of money has been invested in the park and now it looks great (a lot cleaner). Flamingo Land also has one of the widest selection of rides of any UK theme park (Possibly more than Alton Towers).
To compliment some of the excellent rides (Including Kumali (Big suspended rollercoaster), Velocity (Rita clone) and Lost River (log Flume) there is a great Zoo and lots of great shows.0 -
Thanks for your replies, sorry I've been on a course and had work to do, so I've only just checked my replies.
Got to admit I think we will probably end up at Flamingo land rather than Lightwater Valley, although my DS(reading this over my shoulder says he wants to go to Lightwater) OOOOOOPPPSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Think we'll put it to a family vote.DFW Nerd 410:T

We live near flamingoland and i must say that its much better than lightwater valley, lightwater vally is very spread out with not so many bigger rides. Flamingoland on the other hand is really good, they have spent a lot of money on the park within the last few years and its look really good. It has a zoo aswell as shows and the rides something for everyone. They have lots of bigger rides and also some water rides which you will get wet. There is a new part where you squirt water at each other which is great fun so take a towel.
Hope you have a good day wherever you choose.0
