Nobody knows how fantastic Yorkshire Bank is

I keep saying this. But would seriously recommend Yorkshire/Clydesdale Bank (depending where you live).
Been with Midland/HSBC nearly 20 years. Went to Nationwide for a year (big mistake).
But then been with Yorkshire Bank for 15 months and have found them fantastic. Not the best rates of interest, true. But good old fashioned style banking, which I believe is what the OP wanted.
I am surprised that they get so few mentions either positive or negative here or in the media. Perhaps because they are somewhat smaller than the others. But that in itself I see as an advantage, which is why they are much more personal and traditional in their approach.

I've been with Yorkshire Bank for 2 years, if you've been down the road of bankruptcy, you have to be discharged to get an account. This is called the Readycash Account and comes with a full debit card the Maestro.
The internet banking is simple to use and any transaction on your card shows up immediately! I used to bank with the co-op bank after going bankrupt, but their internet banking could take a few days to show up any transactions you had made on your card.So was best to write down your spending.
Yes, it's funny not much mention of this bank account, there doesn't seem to be many branches, that's one reason I wanted an account with LTSB, one on my doorstep.

Clydesdale Bank are dreadful. If Yorkshire Bank are anything like them, I'd steer clear. Unfortunately we have none up here so I can't comment on them, but there does seem to be a lot of positive comment about them.0

In what way dreadful? Yes Yorkshire are part of the group, think they are an Australian group? Up to now (fingers crosses) Yorkshire have been fine, plus you go through to a call centre in Scotland. I was with Co-op bank but what happened, I cancelled a Standing Order, actually did it on the phone, then a few days later I logged in; and they tried to send it out 3 times. Plus, as I never kept my money in the account they charged me £19.50 3 times:eek:
I got onto them and they removed the charges, and they paid me £15 compensation because it was their fault.
But I'd lost confidence in them, so that's why I moved to another bank.
I booked an appointment with YB, they didn't score the account, the advisor I got said: I have to just do a check with Experian to see you are discharged.
This was done manually on the phone.
I was given my account details there and then, the advisor was interested as to what led to me having to go bankrupt.
But that branch I got my account with, was probably a very good branch.
It really varies with even branches, sorry to have rambled on a bit!

Their account offerings are poor - from memory, very poor current account/savings rates. At last look you couldn't apply for accounts online - branches (where there are any now where I live as CB cut swathes of them a few years ago) are open irregular hours in the country and standard in the city, unhelpful, surly (usually) staff in branches, inflexible customer service. Shall I go on? Obviously this isn't across the board, but it's just the experience I and others I know have had of them.0

I've been with Yorkshire Bank for over 28 years. I wouldn't say they were "fantastic"...they just do what it says on the tin.
The call centre, in my experience, is staffed by nothing more than receptionists and a transfer to/call back from branch is usually necessary to get anything done.
The poor interest rates didn't matter for the first 20 years, because I hadn't any money to save!!!
Online banking is one of the best I've used (and I also have current accounts with Halifax, LTSB, A&L, Nationwide & FD). The following day's transactions are available to view at 23:00 the day before, and Monday's transactions can be viewed at 23:00 on Friday!
In all the time I've been with them I've never had to make an official complaint. Contrast that with Halifax, with whom I had make 3 complaints in the first 9 months in 2006/07.0 -
I've been with the Yorkshire Bank over 30 years and have never had any problems with them. When I've needed money, they've come up with it and even though I am now retired, they have no hesitation in lending money if I need it.
They are the best.0 -
Don't count on their online banking for up to date info.
When I used their Maestro card, It always showed up almost instantly. Working on this, paid a bill. Found out a week later that a Maestro transaction had in fact sent me a few pounds overdrawn, and they attempted to charge me £25. They did agree to refund the charge, but since they were so slow, it took them 3 months, and as I took all funds out, they had to refund 3/4 times £25.
I couldn't be bothered with the hassle, and closed it. They were perfectly polite in the branch, very slow with everything ( took them 2 months to send my initial card also) Maybe i'm too young for good old fashioned banking :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
