I tried to tell her once last year that I know people who only own one pair of shoes. She didn't believe me that such people exist in the 21st century...

I know someone with 1 pair of shoes -- my son. He need new ones every couple of months, and we buy decent ones, but certainly not more than one pair!

He has a mate who has 6 pairs of shoes, which is barmy for a 2 year old. Mind you, she had a birthday party when she turned 2 that cost £3k!

Doesn't he smell when he gets to work?

Showers are good. Our chambers has a bathroom, incl. a bath and a shower, and it comes in very handy.

That is an awful lot for a handbag.

Aye, 'tis. You should see the kind of losers owning one gets you associated with, as well.

Oh well, today I've fixed the telly we thought was broken, and resisted people trying to force me to go to the pub, and last night cost £2.20 so, cheap weekend :)
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

Sorry to say, but it's not even a nice bag!

No argument from me, although I know nothing about fashion and carry my belongings around in either a black fabric satchel I got free at a work conference, or a 2002 vintage Le Coq Sportif rucksack...

I wish we had showers in work :( I live about 10 (hilly) miles from the office, so that's about an hour each way, add 15 mins to get showered and changed and I'd need to head out at 7:45am to be at my desk by 9. No problem, that's only half an hour earlier than I leave now to catch the bus. The exercise would be great, as would the savings, the smelling would suck though!

If I lived 2-3 miles away then I'd cycle in regardless of the lack of showers as I wouldn't break a sweat on such a shourt journey.

I'm just gonna keep on nagging I think. Maybe they'll crack one day...

In central London there are bikes everywhere, so it doesn't bother us - there are always nicer ones to be nicked!

Well thats fine talk for a barristerwink.gif

Oh, I see, you mean that you would not get yours nicked as others are nicer than yours, rather than there are nicer ones to replace yours with if they get nicked?:D

At least, I'm hoping you mean the former :D

I mean that our bikes are not the nicest, and the nicer ones are more likely to be nicked than ours are (-:

I use that theory to keep my car safe. It's an old, small car that looks like it's driven by someone with no cash at all ;)

However, it gets me from A to B perfectly and is very reliable and cheap to run - I keep it well serviced and spend money to quickly fix mechanical problems. Since it's so cosmetically run down (has some visible rust and a couple of dents) I never worry about getting it dinged in car parks. I also never worry about anyone bothering with it. Once I left my keys in the door for about five hours and no-one touched it :D

It's also great for 'fitting in' as no-one gives you a second look even in dodgy areas.

In fact, I'm mulling buying a new bicycle which is going to cost considerably more than the secondhand value of my car :rotfl:

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

I'm currently saving £1000 a month. I can do this because I still live at home with my parents (I'm 22). I'm a director for a company, my company pays rent for the office at my parents (spare bedroom ...), so I pay my parents a relatively small sum to live there due to the extra they receive for the office rental. All the food I consume is purchased by me.

My target is £18,000, I currently have £12100.

However, I'll be a Dad within two months, so events may force my hand in terms of buying or renting sooner rather than later.
