conveyancing services

Hi
I have just exchanged contracts after a particularly horrendous selling process only to find out at this stage that i did not have the support of a solicitor behind me, having employed the services of a conveyancing service. I had assumed that a 'conveyancing service' was simply a solicitors practice that dealt solely with conveyancing. This explains why the firm i dealt with offered no advice or assistance that i would have expected from a 'proper solicitor' and seemed simply concerned with getting the administration through the system without helping in any negotiations or guidance with the unexpected complications that arose. If everything goes through with no hitches and you are blessed with a buyer of different character than i had then conveyancing services are fine, otherwise dont touch them with a barge pole, i would have saved myself a lot of money and stress if i had known the difference.

  • Unfortunately this shows why you should always get recommendations , personal if possible; before appointing anybody/Company to act upon your behalf !

There are good and bad Conveyancing services, Solicitors and Estate Agents.

If you are new to an area try and get recommendations of who to use when buying/selling from , Banks, Building Society, CAB . Solicitors and Estate Agents can also give good recommendations. Beware they may be working 'hand in hand' - but, that can sometimes be to your advantage.
