Car stereo

We want to get a new car stereo. Our old one had a removable fascia and there was a flashing red light behind the fascia. This flashing red light did an excellent job of draining the battery. Are there any stereos which come without stupid flashing red light?!

I can't see how a flashing LED could drain the battery? They use so little power....Anyway This is one of the cheapest high watt steros going. I have one and it's good value for money.
http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_details.asp?id=17375&type=3&cat=38NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Neither could we but it was certainly causing the battery problem!0

Excellent people and regularly have good offers.
If found a stereo you like Froogle it to find the cheapest.

If your battery is draining then there is some other problem, i.e. charging system not operation correctly or battery is weak. I would get this checked out as well.
my car has 3 flashing led's (one for radio, one for alarm and one for immobiliser) and i have no problem starting even if the car is left a week or more.0 -

We found the flashing red light behind the face off to be a deterant to would be vandals/thiefs and kids mucking about, we over heard (on cctv) one looking at our car and asking was it alarmed to which his pal said yes the red lights flashing, so they walked away (thankfully) so it might not be a bad thing to have. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
We've got a flashing red light for the alarm. Trying to remember I think there's one at each door. Had the alarm fitted when our car was broken into last year. They didn't take anything as there was nothing to take(maybe we should have left our car stereo for them to take - could have acted as revenge!) so I can understand your point about the flashing red light if you haven't got an alarm.0

As above, I can't see how one LED could possibly drain your battery.
I would get your battery checked if there are no warning lights (for alternator etc) on.
Just whatever you do, don't buy a new battery from Halfords or Motorworld. They wanted £60 for a new one and I got one from the motor factor near me for £18.50!!!!!0 -
Hi speedy,
I'm going to move your thread over to the motoring board to see if you get any more replies there.

Never seen a stereo with a flashing LED before...
As already mentioned, 1 LED won't drain your battery. Get your battery checked to make sure it's OK, and also a test of your alternator to make sure everything is working OK.0 -
If you're getting a CD player I would recommend you get one that plays mp3 discs. They don't cost much more and you can make discs with up to 15 albums. The Dresden model on the Bluespot link posted above looks like a good deal at £79.99 for a known make.
It sounds like your battery has had it, a new one from a motor factor will be the best money you ever spent on the car. If something's draining the battery you can trace it by taking each fuse out in turn and putting an ammeter across the fuse terminals. The current drawn should be minimal and it'll be obvious if any circuit is using power.0
