Laptop memory upgrade.....HELP!

Hi peeps

I have just purchsed 2 x 1Gb memory modules for my Acer 5612 Lappy. When I installed both the new modules I could not get my machine past the ACER splash screen, no HDD light, even left it for about 5 mins with no joy. Does it take longer???

However, if I put my original 512 module into the first slot, and put a new 1Gb into slot 2 then my machine boots up and shows 1.49Gb of memory. I have checked the other new module the same way and it works too!

Why won't both 1Gb modules work? Help appreciated.

should boot at same speed as normal, no long pauses. lappy supports 4 gig, so 2x1gig shouldn't be a problem, sorry, if inserted correctly, I can't help :(

Take all the memory out and insert each 1GB stick one at a time in to the Dimm A or Dimm 1 slot then switch on the machine.

If both work on there own then i guess the motherboard doesnt like that brand of memory or just doesnt support it for some reason very odd.

Also try and run the laptop as normal with just 1GB of memory in at a time does the laptop perform normally trying this with both for an hour or so each? run some high usuage programs see if you can get it to crash or freeze. Maybe one stick is faulty, ive seen old memory do something similar so maybe new stuff can too.

    Maybe run memtest? http://www.memtest.org/

I havent had that much luck doing a quick search for the laptop manual for that laptop yet it definately is strange if the laptop supports more than 2gb of memory. Cant think of anything else right now.

    found the manual finally here
    System memory
    TravelMate 5620/5610 Series

Up to 2 GB of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory,
upgradeable to 4 GB using two soDIMM modules

crucial's website memory upgrade tool says your laptop supports 4gb so its a mystery right now i can only continue to speculate bad memory so you need to fully test it.
