Selling a TV

Hi all
My boyfriend has a television he no longer needs and he asked me if I wanted to sell it on EBay. It's a decent Sony and it's about 5 years old and works fine. I've never sold anything of that size, so I'm not sure
- I guess it would have to be a 'collection only' item. Would I be better off selling it somewhere else? I'm not even sure how much old TVs sell for - is it worth it?
(He's also got an old pair of skis, also a bit big for posting - if anyone has any tips where to sell them, I'd appreciate it!)

I've got a Sony TV in good working order and I can't even shift it in the free ads.
Despite my lack of success... it would be a better and cheaper way to find someone who would collect. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
TBH old tvs are worth fairly little
You can search competed items on ebay to see what the same spec/age has gone for. If it was me I'd just stick it in the paper0 -
Small ads might turn up a buyer, although I ended up dumping my last TV as absolutely no one wanted a perfectly OK working CRT TV any more.

Cheers for your replies - I thought it might be problematic. Maybe I'll stick it in the paper and if that doesn't work maybe try and find a charity who will appreciate it.0

Sorry, I don't usually suggest this, but at least you might get something this way if all else fails
cashconverters
<premier ducks>
I also don't like suggesting people don't donate to charity shops, but most of the charity shops around here now refuse electrical items as they need to be safety inspected before they can be re-sold. Unless the charity shop employs or knows a qualified electrician who will donate their services, then the cost of testing has made the sale of electrical items in charity shops non-viable."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I hadn't thought of cashconverters - might be worth a look!
Re the charity - yes, you're right that most charity shops don't accept electricals - I was thinking of perhaps somewhere like a hostel, youth club or a community centre?0 -
I've shifted several old TVs via freecycle (and realcycle) - they are almost worthless these days, and lots about with everyone upgrading to LCD/TFT screens. I don't think you'd make enough on eBay to have it worth the hastle, unless it's particularly unusual - try searching the completed listings for similar items to see what they go for.0

widescreen TV's still make some money on ebay
older ones are less sought after0 -
We sold a Sony widescreen 32" TV on ebay a year or two ago. It was a massive heavy thing. It made £150 and buyer collected it and paid cash. Obviously things might have changed since then though (as everyone wants LCDs now).:www: :: MFi3 ::
