    So even if you had bad credit, it doesn't always mean you cant rent

    Im not renting YOUR property. I let from a letting agency, the landlord will never live in this property and my cat is not flea ridden..........

    Thanks to the OP for reminding me of something. All though my credit reference should be absolutely fine a debt collection firm tried to collect a previous tenant's debts from me. Although that was all cleared up (eventually) I'm worried whether I'll have this erroneous debt problem listed as mine. I shall have to do some online searches.

    OMG......I didn't mean to start WWIII, but thanks for the helpful replies everyone. Its good to know what to expect. I did speak to the letting agents this afternoon about a property we are interested in and said upfront that our credit history might cause a problem. I explained that I have had a good credit history for the past 10 or so years, but since January this year there have been missed payments etc including a 1.5 months mortgage missed.

    He asked whether we had any CCJs or were filing for BR and I said no. He said he didn't think there would be a problem. He also mentioned that a lot of people have missed payments (although I appreciate it's only my circumstances that matter to me).

    He did not mention anything about a guarantor, but at least I am armed with the knowledge that he might.

    We can't do anything now until we exchange contracts (hopefully end of this month) and if the house is still available, we will probably go for it.
