Got the Electric Bill last week based on an estimated reading (why they thorght that I use more March to June than Dec to March only they know!).

So I ring and give an actual reading and get the bill today. It's less but can you explain what the have done?

The first bill:-
Bill Summary
Last bill £108.18
Payment £108.18
Charges this period £101.83
Total this period £101.83

06/03/08 to 28/05/08

Readings:- 50629 Customer 51419 Estimated =
790 units
First 205 @ 18.37p = £37.66
Next 585 @ 10.14p = £59.32
Total = £96.98 + VAT = £101.83

New Bill

Last bill £101.83
Cancelled Charges -£131.04
Payment £0.00
Charges this period £118.23
Total this period £89.02

08/02/08 to 02/06/08
Readings 50409 Estimated 51289 Customer =
880 units
First 284 @ 18.37p = £52.17
Next 596 @ 10.14p = £60.43
Total = £112.60 + VAT = £118.23

What are they doing? why did they not send a bill based on the reading I gave on 06/03/08 50629 and then on 51289 given on 02/06/08 so
660 units
Approx 250 units @ 18.37 = £42.93 (I don't know how they decide the number of units on the expensive rate)
Next 410 units @ 10.14 = £41.57

Total = £84.50 + VAT = £88.72

OK so the figures for what I have to pay are very close but why do they change meter readings that they use?

Gas bill will probably arrive tomorrow!

    Are the figures above correct? :confused:

    If so, something is very wrong!

    According to your old bill, you gave a reading on 06/03/2008 of 50629
    - I cannot understand why they appear to have removed this on the new bill

    According to the new bill, you gave a reading on 02/06/2008 of 51419
    - this is the same as the estimated reading the supplier guessed 28/05/2008 :confused:
    - wasn't the reading you gave on 02/06/2008 actually only 51289 as per your explanation at the bottom :confused:

    Looks like SNAFU! Time to get onto the supplier to ask for an explanation and correction

    Edit: or, since we're only talking 30p difference here, you could play this to your advantage.
    According to the last bill, you have been billed for consumption up to 51419, so the next bill should start from this. If the actual reading is only 51289 currently, thats 130 free units - worth a lot more than 30p! ;)

    This is the bottom line why? but I don't think it matters much! we are talking pence not pounds.
