Loan or not... they should surely still refund you the remainder of the insurance period which would then be used to part pay off the remaining "loan" amount. My insurance is with the AA too but I always pay in full so it's not been a problem for me I guess...

Motor insurance is an annual policy, you don't have an option to cancel half way through. They usually allow you to pay monthly as a favour to those who can't pay the ANNUAL premium. If you want a monthly policy you have to pay their short term rates (You def can't afford that)

I cancelled mine after 2 months - they charged me about £60 to do it, but I didn't have to pay for the rest of the year. It's probably down to the individual insurer whether they do this or not though. I was with the Post Office.

Sounds good I'll look at them next time. Who actually issued the Policy?

I have had the same with The AA too... I cancelled my policy for my MX5 when I sold it and got refunded for the last 2 or 3 months of my policy minus an admin fee... Can't recall who actually issued the old policy tho...
But had the same things every time I've sold a car... never had a problem getting a refund or cancelling the policy - I'll I've ever been out of pocket was an admin fee...
