"Scottish Power trying to increase my monthly Direct Debit"

They tried this on with me, even when the account was massively in credit. I wrote saying that I did not give permission for the DD to be varied and that if they varied it without permission I would invoke the DD guarantee to force my bank to refund the entire amount. One month they took the extra amount, but after a phone call informing them that I was taking action under the DDG they backed down.0

An update: after one month at the reduced DD they have put it up again. I've emailed to say that i will reverse the debit in 24 hours unless i hear from them first0

Its quite a difficult one really. Pay DD and have your amount reassessed annually which could mean that you had been underpaying for a full year and as a result when your account was reassessed you could potentially have a large outstanding account
Or
Have your dd reassessed each quarter which means you are less likely to have any outstanding balance but you have the inconvenience of having to re budget every quarter.
It's really a matter of choice but I think I would prefer to have my account reassessed each quarter so that any change needed to my dd would be minimal as opposed to underpaying for a full year and then when my account is reassessed it would be a significant jump in my dd0
