Bluetooth help - mobile to PC

Not sure whether to post this here or the mobiles board, but I'll try here first :o

I've recently bought a Nokia 6230, and a cheap dongle from ebay. My PC is running windows ME, and the software supplied with the dongle for ME is called XTNDConnect Blue Manager 3.1.

Well I get a connection using this software but it is pretty rubbish in my opinion, I can't see a way to back up my phone data for instance. So I downloaded Nokia PC Suite 5.8, that version was recommended by Nokia. When I tried to run it, I kept getting an error message, "No such interface supported".

I tried uninstalling the XTNDConnect Blue Manager, but that uninstalls the BT protocol stack too - so my PC doesn't see the dongle!

Can anyone recommend something better to use or tell me where to find a protocol stack for windoze ME? I'm going nuts here! I'm not technically inclined at the best of times, something always seems to go wrong :wall:

  • Try to do a search on the model of you bluetooth dongle, I got an MSI one for my sis a while back and the sofware and drivers that came with it were dire. I eventually downloaded the driver from the MSI site which worked perfectly with the phone manufactures software (Nokia & Samsung)

Uninstall all software relating to the Dongle. once you have removed all software, restart and then plug in the dongle, If you have a driver (look on the CD which came with your dongle, goto explorer--> windows explorer then brows the cd) don't allow windows to auto install, browse manually to where the driver is and allow it to install that way.

If it installs you should find that nokia pc suite should find it no problem

  • So what I actually need is a driver for the dongle, not a protocol stack  See I told you I wasn't very good at these things!

I've had a quick look through the CD supplied and I can't find any obvious drivers (they're normally in *.inf format I think?) so I'll see if I can find a manufacturer's website. Thanks for your help ;)
  • Ok, I finally solved it. It was all my fault too!

During installation of the Blue Manager I should have selected an option whereby it would support PC Suite, but the default setting was 'others'. I never even noticed this option previously, I just happily clicked away on the Next button throughout the setup, so I had selected 'others' instead of PC Suite.

    What an idiot.gif I am!
