New PC/Laptop

have just copied this from the 'I wanna' forum as this might be a better place for it.

Hope that's ok!!!!!

Am after a bit of advice on model and prices really.

My PC is on its last legs and I desperately need a new one but am unsure what to buy.

At present I am working from home before packing up at the end of October to go on to maternity leave. It is my intention to then start back at work - from home initially - after 9-10 months.

Other than that period of using it for work, I mainly only use it for browsing and doing the odd invoice for hubby.

Used to download music but as that seemed to be when my problems with my PC started, have stopped doing that and deleted everything I had.

So, my questions (finally - sorry gone on a bit!) are:-

1. Would you go for a lap top or a 'normal' PC?

2. Any particular models?

3. What sort of money would you expect to pay and where would you go? Dell always seem to come up but have heard good and bad about them.

Any ideas would be really really helpful.

many thanks.

  • 1. Desktops are cheaper than laptops but not as portable. Go for a laptop if you don't intend doing things in just one room as it's a lot harder to move around a desktop computer (I'm sitting in living room atm using laptop while watching Eastenders)

    2. Difficult question to answer, I would be inclined to go for the cheapest deal, most of the insides are made by only a few componant manufactures.

    3. Dell have regularly sold laptops on offers for around the £350.00 mark, I think they have a current deal on a desktop for £299.99 - Not sure of specifications but for what you have indicated usage the basic ststems they sell should be more than adequate
