Hi
I posted similar yesterday and as I have done a bt since then that changes things, I thought I should repost....cos it was left unsolved.
I have installed a wireless home network (BELKIN; nice, surprisingly easy), and now find that my sons' cannot login to MSN Messenger at the desktop. It seems to think that I have no connection (saying something like...cannot find gateway). The desktop is wired to the wireless router (has no card), and the laptop is wireless. The desktop can both access the internet and the laptop (share files etc) as can the laptop do vice versa (to the desktop). The laptop is accessing both MSN messenger and ZoneAlarm just fine. The desktop is also not accessing ZoneAlarm Pro.
I am not a novice but I am still learning re settings! I have already enabled the Plug and Play via the router (Belkin) and I have now run out of ideas! Please help
Jazz
PS I am wondering whether ZoneAlarm, at least, is a separate prob on the desktop?? It kind of coincides with updating (Pro edition on desktop), and now has problems accessing TrueVector service. Nobody responding to emails at Zone Alarm and I cannot reinstall as it same / similar message comes up re True Vector when trying to install).

Do you have Zonealarm installed on both computers? Which computer is the internet going through (or is it a modem/router)?How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Hi all,
Its so nice to see some replies - I have been 'fidlling' and searching for hours and hours! (Im a teacher and I really SHOULD be doing something else...!). I have to say, that I spending an awful lot of time trying to sort out messenger for the kids (as I have a windows firewal which I am relying on at the mo on the desktop). I just cant find anything as to why it is working on the laptop and yet cannot connct on desktop.
However it is incredibly frustrating re ZoneAlarm as I have paid for it and if I have to reinstall I might lose the rest of this years use.
OK - ZoneAlarm Pro I have is the paid for version - it is only on the desktop (the one with the prob). The laptop has only got the free version and is working fine. I have also tried to download older versions of ZoneAlarm and also unistall (out of desperation) but the same thing / similar thing keeps coming up re True Vector.Jazz0 -
If it's a modem/router. This shouldn't make a difference. The free version of zonealarm is only a problem if you are using ICS, it works fine on seperate computers going through a modem/router. From my reading of the OP. Pretty much everything is OK except MSN and seeing zonealarm on one computer.
If it was a zonealarm networking problem, I don't think the OP would have got everything else running fine except for one program. I'd be tempted to check the MSN settings on the problem computer in this instance.
If Zonealarm is installed on both computers. I can't figure out why it can't be seen on one of them. It normally kicks in at startup and sits in the taskbar. This seems a mystery, unless it never installed properly. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

You should be fine as long as you still have a copy of your registration code.
How are you trying to uninstall? Best to go through add/remove programs. Can you give a clearer idea of what it is telling you about True Vector? How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

the free version does not support networking if memory serves me right, could this be part of the other problem as well ??Ex forum ambassador

Hi,
its is so nice to see some replies!! I have been spending quite some time trying tro sort out messenger for the kids as I am very confused as to why it is working fine on laptop and not on desktop. As a teacher I guess I should be doing some more constructive!
Anyway ZoneAlarm Pro is on desktop and free version on laptop. I cannot install ANY version of ZoneAlarm or indeed uninstall on desktop - same / similar messages each time: TrueVector issues.
I am reluctant to lose ZoneAlarm Pro by uninstalling anyway to be honest - I may well lose the rest of this years use. I have, at least, got Windows firewall running for the mean time.
Argggggggh - it's beginning to do me 'ed in !Jazz0 -

I'm pretty certain that the only problem with free Zonealarm was that it didn't work if you used ICS to network (apparently there are workarounds now). It should be fine going through a modem/router.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Thought of that..
first the free version ison laptop and not on desktop (which is one where it isnt working) and second, I have shut it down on laptop and tried starting again on desktop - still no joy.
Wouldnt be the same prob as the messenger prob would it? (whatever that is)Jazz0
