Hi Guys
Just wondered if anyone knew if it is possible to transfer my old videos (of the family) to my pc so I can burn them to disc? or would it be easier to purchase a DVD recorder/
I hope this makes sense
Cheers

If Tescos and Asda are lowering prices every day,
how come nothing is free yet? :rotfl:

It's possible, but you'll need an analogue to digital converter (my camcorder has this function, fortunately) and editing software on your PC.0

An analogue Tv card will do what you need.
They usually come with recording software as well packaged in.
Put the card in the connect the aerial and record away.
The quality my degrade though slightly.

Last time I was in Aldi, they had a Tevion usb adapter that allows you to plug in composite or S-video leads from an analogue camera or video to the usb port on your computer. I think it was about £50.
The Windows media software on XP would allow you to capture and edit the video. However if the videos are commercial, they may be protected with Macrovision.Wealthsaving - a way of life?0 -
Oh God!
I've just posted a very similar thread on the 'I wanna buy it or do it' forum, and thought I'd have a look to see if I should post it here too, so was very happy to see someone else was asking the same thing, but alas! in true techie style, the answer to a thick non-techie is more confusing than the question!
Please, can I take my video tape to a shop somewhere who will be able to transfer my compact video cassette onto a CD-Rom or DVD? I do not want to have to buy lots of expensive leads or equipment I will never use again (it's only one little tape!)
Can I make a request that your answers are in the language you would use for a not very bright five year old? This is my first visit to the techie forum, so you should be on your best behaviour.
Many thanks!Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
Sorry Cheese I've not heard of anyone offering that service.
Have you got a techie friend who maybe able to help?? Someone who always helps out at work with computer stuff??
I currently don't have a VCR so can't connect upto my PC and assist.

Posted this yeaterday on another thread. Its relevant though.
To convert analogue to digital I bought this encoder from Dabs.It comes with WINDVD CREATOR 2.It plugs in via usb and is seen in windvd as another capture card. The program will enable you to create chapters etc. and burn as a dvd.I don't know if you can connect it to you camcorder via the leads(I connect to the vcr and capture that way, although I did need to buy a seperate lead as my vcr has a scart rather than composite or s-video)The dvds I had done using this have been fine with no loss of quality. It works out alot cheaper then buying another camcorder if thats all you want it for.0 -
