Our letter just told us to check our details and that our income was between two levels, if all was correct we didn't need to do anything and the payments would continue.

We rang up to check the other day, because of the posts above and the TV advert saying the payments would stop if didn't return them, the lady told us we didn't need to do anything - hope she was right !
  • all P.A.Y.E. applicants need to supply actual income figures to be taken from a p60 (or final wageslip in march) and must be given by 30/9/05. any self employed income must be given by 30/9/05 (even if its an estimate) and by 31/01/06 an actual self employed figure must be given.
if this is not given in time P.A.Y.E or S.E. payments will stop and any payments paid to you from 6/4/05 onwards will be classed as an overpayment.

    if in doubt...... PHONE!!!!!!!!

  • For childrens tax credit the letter says that if you still come within the two levels of income and nothing has changed you don't need to do anything. It was the same last year and that worked OK. Whether you have to claim every year for Working Tax Credit I don't know.
  • Working for the tax credits i get to deal with these sorts of things.
    if the reveiw form says:
you work "x" hrs per week
and your partner works "x" hrs per week
and you have "x" number of children
and your income for 04-05 falls between "x"+"x"
and do you think your income for 05-06 will fall between "y+y"?
and you can answer YES to all these questions, you will not need to do anything, but you may want to check the employer we have you working for!!!
i've lost count of the people i have spoken to today who's hrs have not changed from year to year but their employer has, WE NEED TO KNOW THIS.

  • I started with a new employer last November - phoned Tax credits to tell them but didn't hear anything. Didn't get any payments after 31 Oct 04 so phoned again, still didn't hear anything. Moved house in March 05 and phoned them, several times. Eventually got told my case was "stuck in the computer" and they had no idea when it would be looked at. So I wrote and complained and got a letter back saying they would respond in about 6 weeks. Sent my renewal form off on Monday 26th and today (Thursday) got an award notice redirected from my old address telling me what my award is to 31 March 05. I have no idea what's going on with my claim and whenever I phone someone tells me something different. What a waste of time!

Just sent ours off special delivery as OH self employed, so got the books done early for 04-05. (first year as parents!)

Was very grumpy to find out from our accountant that we will probably be billed back for previous years CTC as SE figures have risen a lot in 04/05. However, earnings for 05/06 are now back down to smaller amounts again but they'll calculate CTC on long gone large earnings.

Why can't anything to do with the tax system be easy?! And why do they treat us like a bank account?! Why give us more one year if you have to pay it back the next year without warning? There was no way we could have predicted the huge rise in income.

    Grrrrrrrr.

  • I have just filled in my tax credits online :T and have submitted the years figures as an estimate. I received the following message at the end of submission

" You have successfully reviewed your details and sent your annual declaration. You have given us estimated income. You must give us actual income for the year 06/04/2004 to 05/04/2005 by 31/01/2006. You can do this by clicking 'Declare actual income' on the 'My account' page."

I remember doing this last January too. Hope this helps clear up the to confirm or not to confirm issues.

I rang the helpline Sunday. The lady confirmed I have to tell them my income details by 30th September - but she said she would accept an estimate, which I gave her.

No mention of having to confirm this at a later date.

Mine is the same and every year I panic because I don't do anything and then remember I don't have to do anything. Its because I get ctc only.

I remember phoning last year to check not doing anything was right now come to think of it which is why this year I just filed it and forgot it. Until I read this thread which got me in a panic again .......... until I checked again ............

I agree I wish they would make it clearer that if its just ctc you don't need to contact them if there has been no change in income outside the stated level.
I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.

well, I rang a few days ago to renew my claim and was told that i had to give actual figures for my 04-05 income. I explained that my employers are dozy beggars who are fairly lax about such things as p60s and wageslips and that it'd probably be handed to me in a few months. I gave him an approximate figure - that will be within £150 of the amount. He reluctantly accepted that but I remember being able to give approximate amount last year without any argument - and giving actual figure later on.
