We are in the process of updating our new house and would like to change our current consumer unit and add new sockets. We have had a quote for the following and wanted your honest opinons as I wasn't expecting it to be so much, although I may need a reality check:
- Supply & fit a new split load consumer unit c/w RCBO's & MCB's
- Cross bond water & gas supply (£648)
- Remove two sockets (previously storage heater sockets)
- Convert four storage heater sockets to double sockets
- Install three further double sockets (£565)
- Install five double sockets under the stairs for a study area (£350)
Total including materials comes to £1563.
We are based in Bedfordshire.
Thanks in advance!

hi carli h
I would get another 2 quotes if i were you, over £1500 is a lot of money for the work that you done, no reality check needed. I think you should be looking more at £1000 or below for a competant scheme registered spark.
good luck0 -

or the number of circuits etc but average consumer unit fully loaded £60 - £100 meets new 17th edition Regs any particular reason they are using rcbo ? instead of RCD protection labour anything from half to max a day average labour rate £125-£150 a day depending on your
Location top end £250 bottom £185
Did you mean incoming services water and gas ?
materials no more than cost of cable clips etc £20 -£ 50 max if you main water and gas are near the main consumer unit could really not see it being more than 1-2 hours work at worst if getting to them means lifting carpet floor boards half day top end £75 – Bottom £35
(Remove two sockets previously storage heater sockets) £15
(Convert four storage heater sockets to double sockets) a couple of hours materials £20 labour £75
(Install three further double sockets That would depend on if they are putting in new circuit, extending a existing ring etc and how far consumer unit is away from them ? so a little difficult to price but from other parts of estimate I’d say get someone else0
