Lichen on Soft Top - jet wash to remove it?

The soft top hood of my car has got terrible lichen growing on it. When washing the car with a jet wash the other day I noticed that I could get this off very well using the jet close to the fabric. But the jet ran out before I was able to finish the job. Anyone know where there's a good jet wash near London NW1 where I could finish the job? I can't go back to where I was washing the car because that was some way away from home.

Probably you're going to tell me that this is a really bad way to do it, and that I'll damage the top, but the top is nine years old and nearing the end of its life anyway, so I'm not too bothered. But if you know a better way, let me know. I don't want to spend much doing this, it's not worth it.

Thanks for your help.

  • Don't use a jetwash. Get a bucket of soapy water and a green scourer, and scrub it off. Then buy some Thomson's sealant (for tents!) and paint it on to re-proof it.

Autoglym do a very good convertible roof cleaner, available from the likes of Halfords. You get a cleaning agent, cleaning pad & another bottle for re-treating the roof.

I use Fabsil aerosol (also for tents) for the roof of the Landy. One big can gives me about five coats.
  • Fabsil, that's what I was trying to remember :) I used to own a TVR Chimaera, I used Fabsil on the roof, the paint on stuff though. :)

I used to use the paint on type in a stirrup pump plant sprayer to proof our trailer tent but the aerosol is much more convenient (but more expensive) for small areas.
