Recording records and tapes onto PC

No doubt there's oodles of threads on this but couldn't seem to find anything on the search. Having just bought an MP3 player I would like to record some old tapes and records onto it via my PC - I think I've connected my amp line out to my line in socket on the PC via a 2phono-line in adaptor but I now need to be able to record it.
Clearly there is probably some basic bit of software in XP that would do the job but being basically thick I can't find it. If not, a freeware product would also be welcome as I'm as tight as I am thick. All suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 2005 Deluxe
Thats what I use, about £20 from amazon. I got the deluxe version as you get the connector that you need.
Great results and I have seen others vouch for it too!0 -
