Windows XP Waiting time

Hi,
I am not quite sure how to explain this but I have a computer which was custom built. When I switch it on before XP starts you get a screen asking which operating system you want, 'Microsoft Windows' or 'Microsoft Windows XP'. The XP is selected and you can press enter or wait 30 seconds and it is a bit of a pain to wait 30 secs for it to load sometimes. Does anyone know how to reduce this time?
Thanks
jonathan

To stop dual booting go to start then control panel then system. then select advanced then select settings in startup and recovery select which operating system you want. Then change time to display from 30 to 0smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Inexplicably, a clean install of Windows will sometimes produce such a menu at startup, despite there being only one operating system present. Fortunately, there are ways to fix this by editing the boot.ini file.
At this point you have a choice: either remove the offending boot entry entirely, or shorten the timeout from the command prompt.0 -
When in Windows XP
Go into Computer Management. Should be under Porgrams -> Administrative Tools.
Right click the Computer Management name at the top and select properties.
In the third box down labelled startup and recovery click the settings button. There is an option in there to reduce the time taken to display operating systems from the default of 30 secs down.
This is a much easier and safer way to change the time taken to initially boot.
Hope this helps0 -
Thanks for your help. I will try it.0

I am sure Tweakui has the ability to edit boot.ini and is very easy to do.

If theres two hard drives with different OS on, the one without XP can be formatted and re-used. Just make sure XP is booting of the master drive so that it will continue to boot properly, you would still need to edit boot.ini though to remove references to any other OS, or reinstall/reapir XP.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
