Well done Maz for being so positive. Neither Barclaycrud or Hellifax have acknowledged any letter or request I ever have sent them, even CCA requests. They've blatantly chosen to ignore since March. They are my smallest creditors and MBNA who I owe nearly 9k to have been brilliant - immediately accepted my proposals and my only creditor to freeze interest immediately. Funny how creditors are good with some and not with others - maybe I've got it all coming to me from MBNA soon! I've got tomorrow off work so will write letters re BC and Hellifax tomorrow. I'm not shirking my debts but both BC and Hellifax sent doorstep collectors to me and have lumped on massive charges so I now owe twice the amount and they haven't even supplied CCA's and neither are accepting my DMP.

Do keep records of all calls, I know it's a pain. I have voicemail at work and I can see their numbers come up at home and work so I'm keeping records.

I deal with the FOS a lot (I work in the Financial Services industry and my job is regulated by FSA - a reason why BR is not an option for me) and whilst FOS may help, they don't tend to look at the legal issues, they seem to think that you are requesting a CCA "to get out of paying for the debt" so may favour the creditor. They are complicated and after 12 years I'm still trying to work them out!

    Keep posting one and all!

Hi Hb and congratz on grabbing the bull by the horns and sorting your debts out yourself. And the same goes to all you other who are doing it for yourselves too.

I always have great admiration for people who do it themselves because I believe we are truly taking control of your finances. I must admit, I thought for a short while that I would have to go through one of the debt management charities but the thought of giving over control to someone else to sort out my finances terrified me. So I decided to go it alone too. I feel as though I am going through a very important educational time and one that will be with me for ever more.

I think it will probably take longer for us to do it ourselves but I, for one, feel that I am achieving something great.

Once again, well done and congratulations to all.

    Best of luck

  • CCCS_Sarah: What is the recommended food budget for a couple (Wife is 6 months pregnant so eats a little more!), as I've just reviewed my DMP with the CCCS and am now due to pay £950 (up from £515!!!!!), am pretty worried what with baby on the way soon as my wife will get very little money for several months of her maternity leave! The main iten that I can think I have given too low a figure for is food! Thanks!

    (excuse the post hijack btw!)

I'm very worried by the thought that they might add extra charges as this would make it all much worse! Is the DMP most often successful then or is it usually a fight to the bitter end?

    hiya all

HB my responce to your post , like ive said in my previous post here, im struggling with mbna yet like Deep in Debt stated they have been brilliant and accepted proposal, my debts to them are 8000 over 3 different accounts and they are being unhelpful, is my polite word for the moment - lol

I will keep you posted on the replies of my complaint....

Deep in debt, - thankyou for your comments, ive gone past the phase of being scared, panicking on the letters i got, constant telephone calls, my now knowedge has improved, my confidence has grown and im dealing with my debts in a more indepth pro active approach, more business minded in my efforts.

To Poosmate, - i totally agree with you its an educational thing all right, im treating this now as its my mission to find out all the facts and really champion my way in dealing with my debts.
When i do get back to work , i will be able to really sort out the debt but for at least 6 months ive asked my creditors for a little help, about 5 of them were quick and accepted and some with no interest at all, others with reduced interest so fab,
the ones that are not being helpful, ive complained, its now the only way to get a decent reaction, and plus its recorded and the complaints proceedure needs to be processed - so now awaiting on the outcome of their findings, yet all im asking them to do is give me a bit of time until i get back to work, im not asking them to write off my debt

im called a tenacious bulldog at times by my friends, but i will not give up, i will not be treated like some person who is evading my bills, im pro active and showing determination in getting debt free as soon as possible.

So be consumer confident and take each day as it comes, you are forever learning and we will all come out of this and we shall have learnt a lot about ourselves along the way

Keep happy and have fun Ciao MAZ
