Probably to match Icesave's 7.01% 1 year fixed saver ;)

I went for the 7.16% rate fixed for three years. However the Nationwide BS tried to get me to take out an investment product with them but with rates like these I really do not see the point of taking a risk.

Just a note of caution ICESAVE is not covered under the Financial Services Authority £35000 compensation scheme, (However it is EEA Authorised).
The scheme gives them European Economic Area (EEA) authority rather than full FSA authority. In this case if the bank were to go bust you would still be entitled to the full £35,000 compensation but would have to get it in two chunks.
The first slice of compensation would come from the home state's compensation scheme, which could cause delays in getting your money back.
