TinkyWinky, thank you! That was exactly my concern and the fact that someone has had it happen has just confirmed my gut instinct that sheet vinyl is better for us. I'm sorry it happened to you but I'm glad you told me iyswim.
Thanks Nile, it's Rhinofloor we've been looking at. Believe it or not though, considering the range they do, I cant get quite the right shading I'm after. Just sent off for more samples today, lol.
The other makes were Tarkett and Aquagrip (made by Forbo? from memory). All the same quality, depth of wear layer (give or take 0.05mm) and length of guarantee (15 - 20 yrs).

My neighbour has Amtico fitted through her dining room and kitchen - after a major water leak from her upstairs bathroom, the ground floor was awash with water and had been for several hours. The water had even seeped through the walls into my house and ruined my laminate floor. Her living room carpet needed replacing but the Amtico was in perfect condition after just mopping it up.0

Tinky winky i find it hard to believe that water from a dogs bowl has caused your floor to lift karndean is bombproof and should if fitted correctly withstand water, obviuosly not flooding but water from a dog bowl????
My 3 cats and 2 dogs drench my kitchen in water and it has certainly not touched my karndean..
Also to add depending on the type of karndean you have will also add to its waterproofin as it has varying different thicknesses and prices, the base type which we were advised against by a freind is called knight tile and is comparable to a lino or sheet flooring, but the top group of flooring davinci and monet are guanteed for up to 15 yrs and comparable to a amtico, both have a superior wear layer thus last longer. so find out what exactly you are being quoted on before making the decision as you may be lookin at budget or the luxury market.0 -
My parents have just had Karndean laid in their kitchen, and before it was laid, they put down a ply subfloor which gives a much better finish and will add to the longevity of the flooring. There'd be nothing to stop you doing that with vinyl flooring, it really does make it look perfect0
