I have had a client request to host 80, 5 min video clips, which we anticipate will get about 100,000 unique hits a month. Due to the heavy publicity it will recieve.

Any recommendations for a Host that wont break the bank or fall over with the traffic?

100,000 unique hits per month each, or altogether?

    Streaming or download?

What kinda bitrate, on average, are the videos?

Where do you expect most viewers to come from?

VPS? Dedicated? Managed or unmanaged? Windows or linux?

I obviously don't know anything about what you're trying to achieve, but people tend to really overestimate how many hits they expect to get. 100k in a month is one hit every 27 seconds...

Having said that, at 100,000 hits, at roughly the bitrate (therefore quality) youtube uses, you're looking at over 1TB of transfer a month. You can get an unmanaged dedicated server that'll do that for £50 a month.

No host will fall over at 1TB a month on a dedicated server. I've got a box with A2B2 which is way higher spec than you'd need, and it's £50 a month. That's UK based, so might not be much use if the client expects a lot of traffic from the us or asia. Leaseweb have good routing to all of .eu and the states. Not sure about their asia routing.

You'll probably find shared hosting that claims to be able to do what you like, but I wouldn't touch any shared hosting with a project like yours.

not the most professional way to do things though, so it depends on the client I guess.

Also, you'll get a slap for having a link in your sig, especially an affiliate link.

The 100k is based on a previous initiative, this time round we have double the marketing budget, and have some big backers who will also be promoting within their channels.

A2B2 looks good, I will give them a ring.

    Cheers

Also Cheers stupha for your suggestion, unfortunately that would be the fastest way to lose my client.
