My apologies first i need to get this out my system, just over a year ago i purchased a dvd player £70 from comet and the manager threw in the 3 years whatever warrenty free of charge so in order to process this on my reciept they discounted off the £20 and when the player went faulty (2 weeks ago)i took it back but i had to choose a player to the value of £50 as that is what they claim i had paid for the original and wouldnt budge when i explained that no the warranty was free and that i had paid £70 for the player but no i had £50 to use towards another player:mad: so i picked out another player a toshiba one and paid another £10 towards the cost and this one is rubbish when i try to watch dvds via hdmi it keeps crashing and freezing and when i googled the problem it seems its a know problem so i returned it today and was offered another one which i declined because of the problems, my options were to go pick another brand so i had a look.
I had the choice of 2 one being a samsung with no remote or a toshiba hd dvd player which again had no remote but that didnt bother me too much as i could buy a replacement and considering the price £55 ish i thought a bargain but then the staff then became very unhelpfull as ok no remote but all of a sudden no power cord which was the same power cord as any other dvd or boombox but they then took the dvd player away:mad: she wouldnt find another power cord so i aksed for a refund as i had only bought this other player 2 weeks ago but was told no refund you have to take it on a gift card which in the end i had to agree to as i wasnt going to up what i was willing to pay and there is nothing else i need from comet.
So now im left with a comet £60 gift card and no dvd player as im not giving them any more money or being bullied into buying a player that isnt what im looking for:mad:
Thanks for reading;)

In some ways, prices are plummeting so fast a £70 (brand / quality / number of features) player 12 months ago would only cost about £50 now - but of course that doesn't make up for the fact that they sneekily fiddled the purchase price to give the "free" extended guarantee.
I'm a bit confused though about the remote control issue / powercord...
Is this a portable player (i.e for in a car etc)? You mentioned HDMI so I assume not. That said, I can't think of any HDMI capable player that WOULDN'T be supplied with a remote or power cord...
Were they trying to replace yours with a display model?
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I was given some comet vouchers as an apology - don't ask! I sold them on ebay and got a couple of pounds under the value, so may be worth a try?0

Yes they were both display models as i asked if they had any more than just the diplays and when the woman checked there was only one of each and they were not getting any more in, what frustrated me was she wouldnt check with another power cord saying there were hundreds in the back and swiped the player away:mad:
I have calmed down slightly but still a long way to go;)The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

I dont really want to go down that road and loose more money, i know its only a couple of pounds but the added hassle of listing then posting, my thoughts at the moment are either go to clearance shop in glasgow as i wont be back to the local one or just sit on them and fork out for another dvd player and use the vouchers maybe at xmasThe more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
You said they showed you a HD DVD player? What ever you do, don't buy one, its a dead format.0

Thank you all for listening yesterday  I feel better now, I only looked at that player as it ticked most boxes but taking thier attitude i wont be returning to buy it or anything else from that store. Its not a high priority so with have a think about things first. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

Comet have a really poor reputation, just do a search on the forums here for the amount of complaints, yours is pretty good compared to some of the poor sods sold dodgy goods and Comet refuse to replace em
Im really surprised when you search on google that
https://www.Comet.co.uk comes first rather than this site
Dont know if you saw the thing in the press lately where a customer bought a £900 flat screen tv from comet + an extended warranty.
When the tv went wrong 7 months later they told him
"tough luck, its not covered under your warranty and please buy a new TV"
he lost his temper and went back in with a hammer and did some damage - twice
I really wish they would release the cctv footage

I bought a laptop from Comet. I didn't buy the extended warranty. Recently the motherboard failed - HP said that there is a 70% chance it will happen and mine was really lucky to have got to 10 months.....!
I returned it to Comet and they said it would take upto 21 days to get fixed. I asked HP and they said about 10 days at their end so I asked comet why it was longer...they said it had to go to their depot and then to HP. HP sent a courier to collect it from me but he never showed up (twice) and that's why I was taking to Comet - i'd lost two days earnings waiting in for the mystery courier (who evidently couldn't find me even though they only have one driver for my area and he delivered to me twice the week before...)
Anyway, after 23 days I phoned and asked them where my laptop was (by which point I had been forced to go and buy another pc in order to get some work done as I'm self employed and work from home and can't just sit around waiting for them for a month)
After 25 days I got it back. Not impressed at all.0 -

Have I been in the sun too long?
If you work from home why had you lost 2 days' earnings "waiting in"?

Possibly working "from" home as opposed to working "at" home? Maybe OP just uses home as base/hq?0
