If you weren't a broker, what would you do?

A bit of light hearted discussion for once... If you are not a broker, still join in but put what you do now and what you would like to do/or would do if you were forced to move jobs.

I will start.

Current: Mortgage Broker/Ambulance Chaser( consumer champion in my opinion but will leave as this for the light heartedness)/IT support to Friends and Family

If I had to move - Realistically I would be able to do Financial Advice (rather than pure mortgage) or team management. If I took time to study and qualify, I would like to go into Law or train to own my own bar/restaurant.

Thanks MM - I am adding international man of mystery and spy to my lists....

Anybody else?

I'd rather be in something like project management or (if staying within FS) probably something in the investments field.

I'd like to work for the FSA at a senior level, find out what their real objectives are, and report back secretly to financial intermediaries. I suppose you could call that a spy really.

I did some project management stuff before, not being the project manager but doing a lot of the analytical stuff and problem solving stuff was great fun...

It can be testing at times though but the satisfaction of seeing the project finish and the effects you have had is brilliant.

Guys, I understand the reasoning behind this thread, however I do wonder if its best suited on this section of the forum, rather in MA or DT. or on a certain RED FRUIT forum.
Here is for consumers loooking about mortgages, and I feel

    1. It deflects from consumer finding information
    2. Does it actually show the profession in a good light

    ( I await the slaps)

We could all sprout wings and don halos overnight Payless and the public will still regard us as highly as something they wiped off the bottom of their shoe.

I think a lot of threads that appear on here could feature on other boards but they do not.

Its only a bit of fun and its not like we have hijacked another query, we still answer questions.

    If I wasn't a multi-millionaire !!!!!! star babe magnet, I'd become a mortgage broker.

I think the direct sales force with shoddy advice has always left a mark on the industry.

If I wasnt an IFA then I would probably work in TV or Radio.

I don't think you really believe that , there's a few people who believe they know best ( I'm the same with tradesmen ... I usually make a DIY harsh but hate calling someone in), and there's a fair few brokers that don't help ( ie the 3% fee guys , sub prime / self cert rates because its easy) but in the whole I feel we are respected by our clients- well thats the feeling I get when people call me.
