Changing supplier, cancel dd?

I've signed up to change supplier for my electric. My next dd to my old supplier is due on the 13th, and I change on the 18th. I'm currently £76 in credit, so should I cancel the dd due on the 13th? I know I'd get it back eventually, but I could really do with it in my pocket this month as I've just got a mammoth phone bill.

    You shouldn't really.

Suppliers can get funny if you stop DD without their agreement.

They may, for example, take off any discount due because you agreed to pay with DD or impose some other kind of penalty.

I understand your reasons, but it's only really safe to cancel your DD once they've issued you with the 'final bill' (it'll be marked as this) and taken the payment due (if any)

As post #2 correctly identifies - not a wise move if you're benefitting from a DD discount.

I shouldn't cancel the DD. But if you are in credit now, there's nothing to stop you asking them to refund the credit balance to you straight away.

Thanks for that, I'd love to call them but I can't find a number for them on the website. I've tried emailing, if I don't get a reply tomorrow I'll try again looking for a number.
